Virginia Attorney General Tells Colleges to Back Off on Gay Rights Policies

Virginia's new Republican governor Bob McDonnell is apparently on an anti-gay crusade.  After his election in November, he proceeded to remove existing non-discrimination protections for the state's gay workers.  And now the state's newly elected Republican Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, is demanding that the anti-discrimination policies that currently protect gay students  in the state's colleges and universities be ignored.

Taking away civil rights is anti-American in every way.  I hope the people of Virginia soon realize that they have elected conservative homophobic zealots to office and demand that they get busy working on the state's problems and improving the lives of ALL Virginians.  Taking away existing policies that prohibit non-discrimination against gays and lesbians is outrageous.

McDonnell and Cuccinelli have been in office for about six weeks, and making discrimination against gays in Virginia acceptable and legal again is clearly a top priority in their agenda for the state.  This is a hateful and outrageous way to "serve" the people of Virginia.

I hope that the citizens of Virginia will demonstrate that they are better than these haters they have elected to state office.
